Week 5, Thing 12: Roll your own search tool with Rollyo.

Yet another thing that I personally will not be using. It certainly was easy enough to create (once I thought up some websites to put in there). I suppose that this could be useful for someone who does frequent searches in a very narrow field.

Week 5, Thing 11: Take a look at LibraryThing and catalog some of your favorite books

Hmmm . . . Library Thing is kind of neat. I don't think I would use it for my personal library (I keep trying to pare that down), but I might use it for my church's library since it's easy to use and can be linked to from our website.

Week 4, Thing 10: Play around with an online image generator

I played with a few of these -- pretty fun, and a great way to waste a lot of time. This is one from FD Toys' Captioner.

Week 4, Thing 9: Explore MERLIN and a few useful library related-blogs and/or news feeds

I did subscribe to MERLIN (which I'll never read -- even if there were any posts in there), and a local news feed for Crofton which I found easily using topix.net.

I have to admit I'm not terribly enthusiastic about this exercise. I'm glad to know that all that information is floating around out there somewhere and that I can corral it into my own little "feed world" if I want to -- I just don't want to.

Hopefully, on to something more interesting next time!

Week 4, Thing 8: RSS & Newsreaders

RSS is a nice way to keep up with news, blogs, etc. I've just never had the interest in doing that! I wish I had the time to read everyone's latest -- maybe when I retire! : )

Week 3, Thing 7: Create a Blog Post About Anything Technology-Related

My favorite technology things are my flash drive and my iPod -- love creating those playlists!

Also, I've been working part-time at IT during NC's renovation and have learned quite a lot about podcasting, audio files, etc. while researching something for Karl.

I hope we'll be able to have some sound -- and maybe even video -- files on our website and Intranet soon; these could be great training tools for staff, or just fun stuff for the public like storytelling, promotions, etc.

Week 3, Thing 6: Flickr mashups & 3rd party sites

In fd's flickr toys, I used an app called the "Warholizer" which is inspired by the Warhol multiple color photos of Marilyn Monroe. I created a very nifty pic with it -- that was fun!
